Internship Position Description:
The mission of WPSR’s Nuclear Weapons Abolition program is to reduce and ultimately eliminate nuclear weapons and the threat they pose to human health and survival. We do this primarily through building a grassroots, coalition-based anti-nuclear movement that can effectively influence Members of Congress on our nuclear weapons policy priorities. We engage health professionals in this work, and play a key leadership role in a broad-based coalition across Washington State that mobilizes and organizes local communities to take action on the gravest threats to human health, including nuclear weapons. As preparation for the internship, our interns participate in monthly task force calls and do pre-reading to begin to learn background information issues related to nuclear weapons.
Due to the conditions of COVID-19, this internship will start, and be conducted until conditions allow otherwise, remotely. WPSR Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program interns have the opportunity to engage in meetings with Members of Congress, learn skills for coalition building, learn the basics of community organizing from a health perspective, and build project management skills.
